Why We Created the Rex Lunch Bag
Edibles Rex, in Detroit, is a 26 year old food service company that supports k-12 schools and daycares with freshly prepared meals. Our clients look to us for solutions to increase participation in their federally sponsored meal programs: NSLP, CACFP, SFSP.
In 2014 we were asked to assist with the Summer Food Service program in our city. Our goal was to reach ALL the children that needed this program. We wanted to offer them familiar foods and introduce them to new ones, but more importantly we wanted them to like the program so they would come back for more.
I brainstormed how to accomplish this with my 11 year old son. He told me “kids like jokes, Mom.” And from that idea the Rex Lunch Bag was born. We wanted a colorful eye-catching bag that included a joke with every meal. As a mom, I wanted children to learn healthy habits as early as possible, so we added fun food facts, and created the ”What’s Up with Rex ?” mascot as their teacher.
The Rex Collectors cards each have a joke and a food or fitness fact. Children love getting them in their colorful Rex Lunch Bags. The cards promote lunch time conversations, and they are trading them with their friends.
The bags were a hit from the day we introduced them. The next year parents and schools called to tell us they wanted to buy the bags for their own use, because their children were saving them for their little toys and school supplies. So we now offer this bag to everyone who is excited about feeding children and teaching them healthy habits for life.
The Rex Lunch Bag kits come with the bags and collectors cards combined. Wholesale pack size is 250 count. Retail pack size is 10 count.
