Why We Created the Rex Lunch Bag
Edibles Rex, in Detroit, is a 26 year old food service company that supports k-12 schools and daycares with freshly prepared meals. Our clients look to us for solutions to increase participation in their federally sponsored meal programs: NSLP, CACFP, SFSP.
In 2014 we were asked to assist with the Summer Food Service program in our city. Our goal was to reach ALL the children that needed this program. We wanted to offer them familiar foods and introduce them to new ones, but more importantly we wanted them to like the program so they would come back for more.
I brainstormed how to accomplish this with my 11 year old son. We created the ”What’s Up with Rex?” mascot to help kids learn healthy habits as soon possible. Then we made “Rex” the star of our lunch bags and surrounded him with colorful graphics and inspiring messages. (“Rex” also has his own virtual home at “whatsupwithrex.com” where kids can find his jokes, recipes and nutrition tips.)
The bags were a hit from the day we introduced them. The next year parents and schools called to tell us they wanted to buy the bags for their own use, because their children were saving them for their little toys and school supplies. So we now offer this bag to everyone who is excited about feeding children and teaching them healthy habits for life.
Rex Lunch Bags are available in a wholesale pack size, 250 count or retail pack size, 10 count.
